Corey Russell currently serves on the senior leadership team of the International House of Prayer (IHOP-KC) as he has done for the last 11 years. Corey is the Director of the Forerunner Program at the International House of Prayer University (IHOPU), discipling and training young preachers and leaders. He travels nationally and internationally preaching on the themes of the Knowledge of God, Intercession, and the Forerunner Ministry. Going deeper with the Word

Having read the other two book by Corey Russell, one thing you can notice after reading or hearing him preaching is his intense and passionate way he speaks about the knowledge of God and going deeper with Him through prayer or through His Word, and this book is no exception.
This book is about how have we lost our intimacy with the Word of God (as individuals and as church), but mostly how we can recover that lost intimacy.
I really like the boldness on how Corey speaks and writes, challenging our most deepest beliefs and mindsets about what the Word of God really is, and how it can become from being a boring place to be to the most delightful thing we can find in our lives.
Before getting to the practical section, Corey takes us into a Biblical journey about the Word of God. The Word being a living person through Jesus, the Word burning in our hearts with passion, and finding delight living the Word, just like David did. We can find a brief review in the book of David's life enjoying the Word in Psalms 119.
After this, the book turns to practical keys on meditation on the Word. There's a theme throughout the whole book, but more specificly in this section about meditation and contemplation. To some it may sound strange and completely foreign to the "normal" christian mindset, but let me say that Corey speaks of the results out of his own experience. So I invite you to try these tools and see if there's any improvement by yourself, always guided by the Holy Spirit.
Then Corey takes the last part of the book to talk about Mary of Bethany and her example of extravang devotion to the living Word, Jesus, and how she was able to know and to move Jesus' heart, thanks to her meditation in Jesus' words.
Finally the book speaks about the Word of God and its application in different areas and circumstances in our lives: as fire, hammer, water and sword, revealing the importance to know the Word in order let God do His work in us.
I finished the book really quick, I found what I was looking for, it is a word of encouragement to those who long for a deeper relationship with God, and to those who are willing to take a commitment with His Word.
I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to make a commitment with God, to go deeper into His Word, and take the time to experiment the living Person behind the words.

Ancient Paths

Corey Russell writes with such passion and revelation and I would recommend this book to anyone who is bored with the Bible, who is just going through the motions and been dry, who is searching for more and is not sure how to get it, to anyone who wants to want to read their Bible and it come alive and take root inside. Not only does Ancient Paths give steps that can help you engage the Word but it helps you see differently... The Word never changes, it's us that change and see differently-- hear differently. Read this book, engage, and push past the point of being comfortable. It's worth it.

The Rediscovery of Finding Delight in the Word of God

Corey Russell urges the reader to rediscover the delight of meditation on the word of God, to hear His voice, worship in awe, and obey His instruction. Russell calls for a shift in our approach to reconnecting with and experiencing God's presence.
Lessons from the writings of Moses, the history of Israel, and the prophecies of Jeremiah provide the guidelines for the ancient paths of rediscovery of power available when we listen for God's Word. The teaching of the New Testament confirms these principles.
Russell writes with a spiritual sensitivity, birthed out of his own personal spiritual journey and discovery through the power of meditation, in depth study of the word, intimate intercession, and an intentional pursuit of knowing God's heart.
I enjoyed the documentation of the research that went into the writing of the book which included a valuable list of authors and titles for additional reading and future study.
"Ancient Days" is written for people spiritually starving, hungering for and desiring communion and an intimacy with God through the word; it is a message for the heart at a time of spiritually famished Christian's hungry for more.
