Completely Delicious!

This is the second book in the Alliance of the Amazons by Sandy James. This is the story of Fire. Having recently finished The Reluctant Amazon, Earth's story, I was completely ready to jump right back into the lives of these 4 kick ass chicks.
The story picks up about a year after the end of Rebecca's story and begins with an argument between the 4 patron goddesses of the Amazons. See, Megan or the Fire Amazon, has been having some problems with keeping a low profile. The title Impetuous really works well as a description of Megan. It's not that Megan is trying to be discovered. But the demons she is going after seem to give her little choice in how and where she takes them out. And to Megan's mind, as long as it ends well, no problem.
Freya, Megan's patron, finally gets the agreement that Johann, one of the Sentinels, will have the final say in whether Megan gets wiped and sent back to her old mundane life. Johann tells Megan that he is there for some additional training for her and to give her some assistance on a new case, not wanting to tell Megan the real reason he is in town. Funny thing is, Megan knows she is having more and more problems with controlling her element, she just doesn't know how to admit to needing more training. Plus Megan has had a crush on Johann since they met and with him around, she is having even more trouble containing her powers and due to the crush, doesn't want to see weak in front of Johann.
What I found completely delicious was the way that they each had the serious hots for the other and were trying so hard to hide that fact from the other. The tension and anticipation was amazing. Just watching the two of them dance around the other was - (pardon the pun) Hot! There were also some serious curve balls thrown in this book. Things I never thought of, never dreamed would happen. It is strange, but there was one point in the book that I actually thought they wouldn't get their HEA. Craziness, right? This is a paranormal ROMANCE. HEA is like, guaranteed. And yet, for just a moment, the turn of a few pages, I was unsure, uncertain, flat out worried that things wouldn't work out. That my dear friends is the mark of an excellent writer. Yes, yes, there was plenty of action and some really hot smexy scenes too. I will even admit that I shed a few tears at the very, very end. Happy tears, okay, but tears none the less. Awesome book, 5 stars. Gina's story is next. I can't wait to see what Air is up to, and get to know her a little better.

THE IMPETUOUS AMAZON is the second storyline in Sandy James' Alliance of the Amazons series focusing on four female Elemental Amazon warriors and the men they love. The storyline continues to build on the introductory premise as Megan Feurer, the fire Amazon must learn to control her anger and her fire, or find herself powerless in a world haunted by demons, demigods, mythological goddesses and the walking dead. And to ensure Megan follows orders, Sentinel Johann Herrmann, the man who stirred the embers of Megan's soul in book one, will shadow her every move as she endeavors to reign in her temper when things get out of hand. And to complicate matters, the truth about Megan's heritage will reveal a deeper connection to the fire goddess than anyone could have imagined and place an invisible wall between Johann and Megan that may be impossible to overcome.
The storyline progresses as Megan and Johann must investigate the mysterious disappearance and deaths of a number of young women all seemingly connected to a popular singer. But it will be Megan that becomes his ultimate target when power and greed are his to command with the help of a number of other supernatural deities.
As the title of the storyline implies, Megan is impetuous; a fiery redhead who is the epitome of fire, Megan's temper and acidic personality fuels the fire that burns within the Amazon warrior. And our heroine hides a painful past -one of betrayal and rejection at the hands of a woman she once called aunt and mother. But as Megan learns to control her fire, she is unable to control her burning need for the man who is trying to keep the flames under control. Johann will learn first hand what it is to love and be loved by a fire Amazon, and without a shield, Megan's burning love for her Sentinel may put an end to their relationship before it has a chance to begin.
Sandy James combines mythological goddesses and demons with a contemporary storyline that gifts another Amazon warrior with her mate. The world building is limited in this particular story, as most of the premise is character driven-and saying that many of the previous storyline characters play a pivotal role in the fight against evil. There is romance and love, sorrow and pain, action and suspense as well as the continuous animosity and rivalry amongst the goddesses that risks the lives of the men and women under their command. But the heroine was difficult to like at times-her attitude and personality left much to be desired and saying that-she was who she was because of her past. I am definitely not excusing Megan's acerbic characteristics because in the real world she would be told in no uncertain terms-where to go and how fast. The Impetuous Amazon is an interesting and fascinating addition to The Alliance of the Amazon series by Sandy James.

Sexy, engaging, and interesting

Like most Fire Amazons, Megan Feurer is passionate, unpredictable, and bold. Unlike her best friend and "sister," Earth Amazon Rebecca, Megan took to her role as a warrior with ease. But while Megan excels at protecting humanity from supernatural evil, she isn't as in control as her powers as she needs to be. If Megan hopes to keep her position as the Fire Amazon, she'll need help. Unfortunately for Megan, that help comes in the form of her Sentinel, the one man who makes her feel perilously close to losing control.
In exchange for her saving his sister's life, Johann Herrmann swore his allegiance to the goddess Rhiannon. He's now a Sentinel, the man who's supposed to train each generation of Amazons. But of his four charges, Johann has the most trouble with Megan. When she's not pushing all his buttons, she's making him wild for her. Johann knows a Sentinel isn't supposed to get involved with an Amazon, and that goes double for Megan. After all, he's the one who has to decide whether or not she can keep her powers. But the pull toward Megan is just too strong for Johann to resist, and it's not long before the sexual tension between them boils over.
Johann and Megan's newfound romance threatens to come crashing to a halt when secrets on both sides are revealed. Does Johann have a chance at winning back the heart of his Fire Amazon? If a new enemy has his way, neither he nor the Amazons will live long enough to find out.

Megan is as impetuous as the title of the book suggests, but she's also got a huge heart and an intense vulnerability. Megan's an appealing heroine and she grows even more endearing as The Impetuous Amazon goes on. Because I adored her, I wanted to see her with a hero who was a match for her in every respect. Johann is that hero. The two of them strike sparks off one another -- literally at times -- and though the road to happily ever after isn't an easy one, Ms. James had me rooting for the two of them to make things work. My biggest complaint about the first Alliance of the Amazons book was that I wasn't invested Rebecca and Artair's romance. That definitely wasn't the case in The Impetuous Amazon -- Johann and Megan's love story had me hooked from the beginning.
The Impetuous Amazon is the second Alliance of the Amazons story, but though Ms. James provides enough information to readers new to the series to follow along, I highly recommend reading The Reluctant Amazon first. Ms. James sets up the world of the Amazons beautifully in The Reluctant Amazon and continues to build on that foundation in The Impetuous Amazon. I will say that I thought the world building wasn't quite as solid in Megan's book as it was in Rebecca's. Though some of the new supernatural additions to the series were top notch, other aspects of the world building felt inorganic, which was a pity. The twists and turns in the storyline were a bit uneven as well. Though I won't spoil the story, I have to say that some surprises Ms. James delivers were fantastic and others were slightly frustrating because readers will be able to see them coming long before the protagonists figure them out. However, even with these niggles I still thoroughly enjoyed The Impetuous Amazon and I'm looking forward to seeing what Megan, Rebecca, Gina, Sarita, and their loved ones will face next.
The Impetuous Amazon is sexy, engaging, and interesting -- three things I look for in a romance. I adored Megan and Johann's story and I'm practically on tenterhooks for the next two Alliance of the Amazons books. Bring on The Brazen Amazon!
